The Apostle Paul wrote the backdrop to Jonathan and David’s stage of 1 Samuel 20: “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV). David, as part of King Saul’s inner circle was yoked to the king; Jonathan, Saul’s son, was yoked to his father. By being connected to the king, both were fastened to death. Yet, each broke their yoke: Jonathan embraced the future kingship of David and David freed himself from the king’s court. Together they came under the yoke of God’s will for their lives, strapped in place by a godly love for each other.

Take a personal inventory of who/what you are yoked to. Does the connection lead to life or does it lead to death? Allow the power of God to break the heavy yokes that bind you to darkness and replace it with the yoke of Christ—a yoke that is both easy and light.
