The Apostle Paul writes to the Romans, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God” (Romans 8:19 KJV). He uses “earnest expectation” again, and the only other time it appears in the New Testament, in the letter to his beloved at Philippi, “as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death” (Philippians 1:20 ESV). Thayer defines the words as “anxious and persistent expectation.” Vincent gives a more vivid illustration, “From away, the head, to watch: A watching with the head erect or outstretched; hence a waiting in suspense.”
Ask the Lord to raise your head above the distractions of this world and look ahead with anxious expectation for what He has prepared for you. Commit that Christ will be honored in your body.
