Unlike the 40-day fast, the daily devotionals for this session will not generally be chapters, but much smaller sections. The purpose is twofold:

  1. smaller passages are conducive for the Lectio Divina discipline that we will practice this session…
  2. the readings will correspond with the preceding Sunday night message that will both enhance the spoken word with additional thoughts as well as embed the sermon deeper in our spirits.

There will continue to be thoughts and directive prayer, but they are supplemental to anything the Spirit speaks personally during your sacred reading.

By way of remembrance, Lectio Divinia has a suggested 30 minute format: 10 minutes to read the Scripture (aloud if possible); 5 to meditate on it; 10 to pray it; and the final 5 minutes to make personal application. I would also suggest keeping a journal or writing in your Bible those things that the Lord speaks to you during this time.

The Session theme is Devoted to Destruction (Deuteronomy 7:1, 2, 26). It’s focus is to obliterate those influences, typified by the nations of Canaan Joshua was commanded to destroy, who now try and exercise their power in our life—a power that puts us and those we love in bondage and keeps us from living the abundant inheritance the Lord desires.
