Text: Ephesians 6:10-13; 2 Corinthians 4:3, 4
Yesterday we saw where the Amorite spirit likes to be king; thus, in the spiritual hierarchy of darkness it would be regarded as a territorial spirit as it seeks to dominate over many people.
In Handbook for Spiritual Warfare, E. F. Murphy writes. “The cosmic level has to do with the demonic princes who rule territorially and socially; that is, they partly control different areas of society such as the commercial, political, educational, religious, legal, and military. These cosmic princes may rule on a local, regional, or even a national level. There perhaps are others who rule on an international level. Their purpose is to keep mankind in bondage to the flesh, the world, and the devil, and to stop people from coming to Christ as Savior and Lord.
“Our search for effective strategies to break the power of these spiritual beings, however, has caused controversy. The main reason is that we do not know how the early church dealt with territorial spirits. The main approach being taken today is often called ‘spirit mapping.’ The term came from one of the outstanding researchers in spiritual warfare, George Otis, Jr. He defines spiritual mapping in a simple, logical manner. It is an attempt to see a particular town or area ‘as it really is, not as it appears to be.’ How the area to be evangelized really is depends on what spiritual powers control the minds of the people in the area to be evangelized. What is the belief system of the people? Who are the spiritual powers they fear, worship, and serve? How did the people come into bondage to them?
“With this and similar information, we can now pray effectively for the people in question. We can identify the spirits that control their lives. We can ask God to subdue the activity of these spirits who blind the people to the truth of the gospel. We can ask God to free them so they can make their own decision for or against Christ without the deceptive influence of these cosmic spirits.”
Do spiritual warfare today against the Amorite spirit of self-exaltation and fame-seeking. Pray that the Lord opens up eyes blinded by grandeur and personal preeminence. Stand firm in your intercession speaking plainly in the authority of our Lord.
