Text: Luke 24:30-34, 45

Of the 25,944 words Luke uses in his gospel, four times he used the word opened with three penned in the verses of our text. The physician wrote that eyes were opened (cf. Luke 24:31); Scriptures were opened (cf. Luke 24:32); and understanding was opened (cf. Luke 24:45).

Isaiah said it thus, “And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned” (Isaiah 29:11-12 KJV). The truth is it takes the Holy Spirit to open our understanding, whether we are learned or unlearned, but we must make the effort to read.

Yesterday we were to make a special effort to “see” Jesus in our everyday life; today our prayer will be for the Holy Spirit to open up our understanding and let us “see” fresh things in the Scripture. Practice Revelation 1:3 ESV, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.” Pray that you really hear and see something in His Word today. Write in your journal (or Bible)  just what the Spirit opened to you in your reading.
