I have come to learn that doing something for God is not the same as working in what God is doing. Years ago, in studying Watchman Nee’s book Spiritual Authority the following quote spoke to me immensely even though I was unable to totally grasp all that it was saying.

“Thirdly, before a Biblical Pentecost, there must be a praying people, a people waiting on God” (Ravenhill, 1962, p. 145).
Malachi penned, “”Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 3:1 ESV). Even the casual Bible student can see the reference to John the Baptist as the first messenger and Jesus as the second.

“Secondly, the people who get revival will be a humble people” (Ravenhill, 1962, p. 144).
On Day 28 our text was from Psalm 103:14, “For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.” And from the message that day we must remember, because He remembers, that we are but dust by recalling that our life originated in a different way from our body. The Preacher penned, “and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7 ESV). It was God’s breath that brought life to dirt then and it cannot be forgotten now.

Genuine revival is about defeating sin, practicing righteousness, and looking for our Lord’s return. The Apostle John, in his first letter, speaks to those three things in 1 John 2:28-1 John 3:3. Prayerfully read the passage today in preparation for service tonight and come ready for worship and word.
